Past Speakers

Bev Chalmers
She has served as a consultant on the global Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and on obstetric care to many international agencies, including WHO, UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières and Save the Children, particularly in the countries of the former Soviet Union. She has undertaken over 140 international health promotion activities in more than 25 countries.
She is currently a member of the Oversight Committee responsible for revising the Canadian National Guidelines for Family-Centred Maternity and Newborn Care and is the lead author on the opening chapter that outlines Canada’s philosophy regarding perinatal care. Her book Family-Centred Perinatal Care: Improving Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum Care was published in 2017 by Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Fozia Alvi
Dr. Fozia Alvi is a family physician. She obtained her medical degree in Pakistan and completed her family practice residency training in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was practicing in rural Wisconsin before moving to Calgary in 2007. She got involved in humanitarian work about 4 years ago, helping to build an orphanage for girls in remote areas in Kenya. She then opened a charity hospital in December 2017 in rural areas in Pakistan where the infant mortality rate is the highest in the world. She is actively involved in creating awareness for the Rohingya genocide after her first medical mission in Refugees camps in Bangladesh in October 2017. She has spoken at various conferences and on several TV channels about this topic. She recently spoke at the UN General Assembly in New York. She returned from Refugee camps in August of 2018. She has received the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Award from the Rotary Club. She is the Founder and Chair of Airdrie Community Physician Association in Alberta.

Audra Renyi
Audra Renyi is the Executive Director of World Wide Hearing, a non-profit that helps children and youth with hearing loss in developing countries. Audra is also the Founder & CEO of earAccess Inc., a for-profit that provides access to affordable hearing aids. She started her career on Wall Street as an investment banker where she helped clients with restructuring, bankruptcy, financing, and M&A.
She then transitioned those skills to the not-for-profit world, including as CFO of One Acre Fund, a non-profit agricultural organization in Rwanda; as Head of Finance & HR for Doctors Without Borders at a refugee hospital in Chad; and as a Business Consultant of a Microfinance Organization in Kenya. She was named Wharton Top 40 Under 40, was named Most Creative Person in Business by FastCompany, won the Governor General of Canada’s Innovation Award, won the Young International Leader of Quebec award, was named a Rising Talent at the Women’s Forum, was named Heroine of Health by the WHO World Health Assembly, and is a GSBI social entrepreneur. Audra is fluent in five languages.
Audra holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the Wharton School of Business, as well as a B.A. in International Studies, both at the University of Pennsylvania. She also completed a 6-month executive leadership program at Harvard Business School.
Past Workshops

Naloxone Training
Learning how to administer a naloxone nasal spray is important with the ongoing opioid crisis. Taught by a licensed pharmacist, each delegate will get the opportunity to be trained in using the spray and will take home their own kit!

Basic Airway Management
Second and Third Year Medical Students taught about resuscitation including basic airway management and CPR. Equipment and mannequins were provided to give a chance to practice some new skills.
